BEALE AIR FORCE BASE, CALIF. --Air Force Reservists assigned to the 940th Air Refueling Wing here stabilize a "wounded" warrior during a self aid and buddy care evaluation Dec. 8, 2007. Wing Reservists were practicing their survival skills in preparation for a February 2008 operational readiness inspection. A variety of "wounded" individuals were expertly moulaged to simulate the full spectrum of battlefield injuries. Tech. Sgt. Native New Englander is tops at Air Force Reserve Wing

BEALE AIR FORCE BASE, CALIF. — The daughter of a Bangor, Maine couple was selected as the 2007 Senior Noncommissioned Officer of the Year for the 940th Air Refueling Wing here. Air Force Reservist Chief Master Sgt. Jessica F. Palmer, daughter of Carroll and Jackie Palmer, is the logistics plans superintendent for the 940th Logistics Readiness Squadron, 940th Air Refueling Wing.

Air Force Reservist Tech. Sgt. Barbara Baskins Mateus was selected as the 940th Air Refueling Wing Noncommissioned Officer of the Year for 2007. Sergeant Mateus is a services specialist with the 940th Services Flight. She also started her third year serving on active duty with the 9th Reconnaissance Wing Security Forces Squadron as an augmentee. She continues to perform her Reserve duties with the 940th. Staff Sergeant Jackie Smoak, an Air Force Reservist assigned to the 940th Aerospace Medicine Flight, Beale Air Force Base, Calif., was selected as the 2007 Airman of the Year for the 940th Air Refueling Wing. Sergeant Smoak, who is a full-time medical technician for the 940th, found out within days of her selection that she was promoted to staff sergeant, moving her into the noncommissioned officer ranks.
