Beale Reserve wing steps into the future
BEALE AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Seen through a fisheye lens Sept. 13, 2008, are wing Reservists, friends, family and former members of the 940th Air Refueling Wing at the deactivation of tanker maintenance and operations, as well as a relinquishment and assumption of command. After more than 30 years of flying the KC-135 stratotankers, the wing was realigned by the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure, and will stand up as a classic associate unit to the regular Air Force and the 9th Reconnaissance Wing. Wing commander Col. Al Reif relinquished command to Col. Jeff "Sal" Mineo, and with that, authority transferred from 4th Air Force and Air Mobility Command to 10th AF and Air Combat Command.
