Cottonwood daughter named Airman of the Year

Staff Sergeant Jackie Smoak, an Air Force Reservist assigned to the 940th Aerospace Medicine Flight, Beale Air Force Base, Calif., was selected as the 2007 Airman of the Year for the 940th Air Refueling Wing. Sergeant Smoak, who is a full-time medical technician for the 940th, found out within days of her selection that she was promoted to staff sergeant, moving her into the noncommissioned officer ranks. The sergeant is not far from her home, as her family lives on a ranch in Cottonwood, Calif. (US Air Force photo/Master Sgt Ellen L Hatfield).
