BEALE AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. –
Lieutenant Colonel Julie Spears took command of the 50th Intelligence Squadron at a ceremony held February 8, on Beale Air Force Base, Calif.
The 50 IS provides fully-qualified system support personnel to sustain and maintain the robust communications and computer network required to fully integrate into the Distributed Common Ground System world-wide enterprise.
"This squadron exemplifies professionalism, expertise, and pride in their work," said Spears about her first impressions of the 50 IS.
Spears started her military career as a flight nurse and transitioned to intelligence in 2000. She previously held the position of Individual Mobilization Augmentee to Director of Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance Capabilities, Headquarters Air Force A2C, Pentagon, VA.
Colonel Douglas Drakeley, 655th Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance Group Commander, said Spears is a truly unique individual with years of experience within the intelligence community that the 50th can benefit from.
"I've always wanted to see how things worked on the ground floor of the intel community," said Spears. "This is a dream job come true for me."
