BEALE AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. –
The 11th annual 940th Air Refueling Wing reunion is scheduled for Sept. 16 at McClellan Air Force Base in Sacramento, Calif.
The festivities, which will be at McClellan's Freedom park, will kickoff at 9 a.m. and go until 4 p.m., with a pot-luck at 11:30. All past and present 940th Citizen Warriors are invited to attend.
"The purpose of the reunion is to bring the 940th family together," said Chief Master Sgt. Kathryn Primrose, chief, Education and Training, 940th Mission Support Flight. "It's also a chance for us to remember where we've been as a wing and where we're going."
Over the years Chief Primrose has compiled a directory of over 500 former 940th Airmen's names and addresses. She uses this directory to send out invitations both by mail and email. All current 940th members and their families are also welcome and encouraged to attend.
"We'll be providing the burgers and hotdogs and those who come to the event should bring a dish as well," Chief Primrose said, adding, "lawn chairs are encouraged, as seating is quite limited."
The Chief is also looking for a few volunteers to help cook and clean-up, interested parties should contact her.
Making an appearance at the event will be Pegbur, the 314th Air Refueling Squadron's mascot, the half Pegasus half burrow represented on the squadron's patch.
"Pegbur, a stuffed animal, was purchased in 1957 by Mrs. Elsie Mailey, wife of the 940th's first commander, Col. Harry C. Mailey. Mrs. Mailey was kind enough to mail it to me," said Chief Primrose.
The event will also include a raffle and memorabilia for sale.
"We'll accept anything unused and unopened for the raffle. Anyone who would like to donate a prize can drop it off with myself on or before Sept. 15 or bring it on the morning of the reunion," she said.
"I'll have 940th and 314th hats available and possibly some Wing coins for sale, if you haven't gotten one already," said Chief Primrose.
Proceeds from the raffle and sales help pay for the reunion group's annual directory, newsletters and the cost of the event.
"I encourage present 940th members to attend, it will be a fun and relaxing day," she said.
