News Briefs is a list of unit events and information for 940th Air Refueling Wing personnel.

First Sergeant Selection Board
The 940 ARW is holding a First Sergeant Selection Board Jan. 5, 2007. All senior master sergeants, master sergeants, and technical sergeants who are eligible for immediate promotion to master sergeant are eligible to apply by Dec. 3, 2006. Wing holiday party
The 940th holiday party is scheduled for Dec. 3, 2006 at the Recce Point Club from noon until sign-out. Festivities include music, food and Santa Claus. Parents should provide a wrapped gift for Santa to give their child and either bring it to the club or drop it off at the Family Support office. Angel Tree
The 940th "Angel Tree" needs new unwrapped toys for children from a charitable organization. To participate, see unit orderly rooms for an "Angel," which provides information about the child in need. Bring the unwrapped gifts to Family Support by Dec. 2, 2006. For more information, contact Family Support at 530-634-1866/1867.

Canned food drive
The annual canned food drive competition runs through Dec. 2, 2006. Squadrons compete against each other for the best food display. Family Support also needs recommendations of families in the area who need a food basket, which will be provided by the canned food drive. News Flash from Headquarters Air Force Reserve Command
Air Force Reserve Command students are not authorized to use Tuition Assistance (TA) and Montgomery GI Bill (MGIB) benefits at the same time, for the same classes, In accordance with AFRC 36-2203 Chapter 11, paragraph 11.5. The Air Force Audit Agency is conducting audits to find military students who have been using both programs at the same time, to fund their education. Students found guilty of double dipping, at a minimum will have the money taken out of their pay by the Defense Accounting Financial Service (DFAS).

Loaves & Fishes
Sacramento's Loaves and Fishes, is accepting donations for the holiday season. If anyone would like to donate goods the following items are needed:
Combs - brushes - back packs - toilet paper - Fast food Coupons - cotton blankets - soap - shampoo - toothpaste and tooth brushes - chap stick
These items can be dropped off at the 940th Logistics Readiness Squadron and must be received by Dec. 10.

Required Training
Due to the increased INFOCON level, all base network users must read the Phishing Awareness Training power point. by Jan. 17. Members are required to read the power point in order to protect themselves and the US Air Force from the current storm of effective email spear-phish attacks. These attacks are resulting in identity theft, financial losses, and breaches of personal and US Government security systems.
The training is located on the shared drive by accessing the Support Group Folders under the S drive: S:\16 Nov 06 PHISH BRIEFING and by going to https://wwwmil.beale.af.mil/9CS/IA/
Supervisors will monitor compliance and report completion to the Workgroup CSAs.

December Training Course
A South Asian Orientation Course is being offered at Beale via Video Tele Conference. The course, which is being offered Dec. 11-15 provides a comprehensive orientation to regional information designed to enhance the effectiveness of Special Operations Forces personnel supporting US interests and the military mission in the region encompassing Afghanistan, Pakistan, and post-Soviet Central Asia. Interested parties should contact 1st Lt. Tayebeh Knipp no later than Dec. 5.
