BEALE AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. –
Air Force Reserve Command's 940th Air Refueling Wing recently announced its 2006 Senior Non-commissioned Officer of the Year.
Electrical superintendent, Senior Master Sgt. Jason Henderson, from the 940th Civil Engineer Squadron won the wing's prestigious award.
"I was very honored to be nominated by my commander and selected by a panel of leadership within the wing for this award," said Sergeant Henderson.
The Senior NCO of the year has served as a traditional reservist with the 940th his entire military career and has seen first-hand how CE is a critical part of fulfilling the Air Force mission.
"CE builds the facilities for the deployed troops, if they don't have these facilities; they can't perform their mission," said Sergeant Henderson.
Consequently, his most rewarding duty was his deployments in support of the Global War on Terror.
"I'm proud of my deployments in support of Iraqi and Enduring Freedom; also, representing my employer and the reserves while deployed," he said. "I was the NCO in Charge of the electrical shop; we built an air base, and we were in charge of providing power and maintenance to the base."
He feels that his unique contribution to the 940th is his background in finances, and he keeps busy with a demanding civilian career in the banking industry.
"I'm a banker and when I come into the wing I'm an electrician. I think that it's rare to have someone who is a banker and an electrician in the Reserve," said Sergeant Henderson. "My finance background sometimes comes in to play during my duty with the wing."
He enjoys the long lasting partnerships he has formed during his military career with the 940th, and he also likes watching his Airmen develop professionally and personally.
"You have an indirect impact on your Airmen. I tell them to keep their eyes on the goal and don't loose focus," said Sergeant Henderson.
