Keeping it hot, but safe

By Safety 940th Air Refueling Wing

Here are a few safety tips for charcoal grillers during the 101 Critical Days of Summer!
  • Never use gasoline to get the coals going, instead, use charcoal lighter fluid
  • Let the lighter fluid soak into the coals for a few minutes before lighting the coals. This gives the explosive vapors a chance to dissipate
  • Before lighting the coals, make sure the lighter fluid is a safe distance away from the fire
  • If the coals start to go out, don't spray lighter fluid on the hot coals.  This could end up with explosive results
  • Always extinguish the coals when finished barbecuing
  • Always make sure to keep children away from the fire
