Kid's run
An American Armed Forces Kid's Run is scheduled for 9 a.m. May 16 at the 5K fun run trail.
The run is open to youth ages 5-13 years old. For more information, call 634-3140 or sign up at the community center.
Vacation Bible School
The Foothills Chapel is hosting a Vacation Bible School from 8:45am to noon June 8 - 12. The cost is free for chapel families and children of volunteers, $5/child (max $15/family) for all others. Scholarship opportunity
ThanksUSA is planning to give 500 deserving military dependents (children age 24 and under or spouses) $3,000 scholarships to attend school this fall. Scholarship recipients will be selected on the basis of financial need, academic record, demonstrated leadership, participation in school and community activities, and a goal statement. Preference will be given to children or spouses of service personnel killed or injured during active duty.
To be eligible for these scholarships you must be a dependent child or spouse of an active-duty service member (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps or Coast Guard). Visit the ThanksUSA Scholarship website for further eligibility details.
The scholarship application deadline for the 2009 fall-term is May 15, 2009, or until 10,000 applications are received (whichever occurs first). If 10,000 applications are received before May 15, 2009, then a notice will be posted on the ThanksUSA home page .
OSI recruitment
The Air Force Office of Special Investigations (OSI) Detachment 218 is seeking highly motivated and skilled enlisted personnel from across Beale to join their ranks. OSI is especially seeking those in the rank of Staff or Technical Sergeant with six to ten years of service. Applicants will
undergo a testing process, credit check, interview, an extensive background investigation, and an applicant board.
Following the application process, students will attend a 19-week Federal Law Enforcement Academy in Glynco, GA, where they will train alongside 82 other agencies to become credentialed Federal Agents.
Basic requirements to cross train into AFOSI include: be in your cross training window, World wide deployable, not color blind, a rating of 5 on each of your last three EPRs, current fit test, U.S. citizenship, no domestic violence convictions, good credit, the ability to obtain a SSBI clearance and a sound background.

Gold Sox Seek Summer Housing For Players
The Gold Sox Baseball Club is seeking families in the Yuba-Sutter area to house Gold Sox players during the upcoming 11-week baseball season, which begins May 28 and ends on August 9.
Host families should live within a short drive of All Seasons RV Stadium in Marysville and be able to provide a Gold Sox player with a bedroom, bathroom and meals when the team is in town this summer.
Host families are provided with complimentary game tickets and invitations to special team gatherings, including an end-of-season stadium celebration.

Hydroxycut warning
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued a warning for consumers to stop using all Hydroxycut products due to 23 reports of serious health problems including one death. Hydroxycut products are dietary supplements that are marketed for weight-loss, as fat burners, as energy-enhancers, as low carb diet aids, and for water loss under the Lovate and MuscleTech brand names. The company which makes Hydroxycut has voluntarily recalled all of their products. Additionally, all Hydroxycut products from this base will be recalled. Bowling Center closure
The Bowling Center will be closed May 1 through May 31 during two major renovation projects that require the water to be shut-off in the kitchen area and restrooms. The Bowling Center is expected to re-open on 1 Jun 09.
Become a teacher
A "Teaching As Your Next Career" presentation will be conducted at the Airmen and Family Readiness Center, at 2:30 p.m. May 5. The presentation is free and open to active, reserve, retired, spouses and civilian employees who have ever considered becoming a public school teacher. Detailed information will be provided on:

DRAFT CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT
The U.S Air Force at Beale Air Force Base (AFB), California, proposes to construct a new Child Development Center. The project involves the construction of a 39,500 square foot facility at a site on main base. The objective of the EA is to analyze and disclose any potential environmental impacts. In accordance with 32 CFR 989, the Air Force is required to prepare an EA and provide documentation for public review.
The 30-day review period begins April 9. Copies of the EA are available for review at the Beale AFB Environmental Office, 6601 B Street Beale AFB,CA 95903. Copies of the document can also be obtained by calling (530) 634-2665.

Firing range notice
The base firing range located northeast of the intersection of Warren Shingle Blvd. and Doolittle Dr., as well as the machine gun range located adjacent to Miller Lake, on Beale Air Force Base, are designated as NO TRESPASSING AREAS. When the red flag is raised or the red beacon is
flashing at the base firing range, Friskey Lake is off limits and when the red flag is raised on the machine gun range, Miller Lake is off limits. Entering into these areas for other than official business is not only illegal but extremely dangerous due to gunfire. Medical Service Corps Recruitment Opportunity (Officer and Enlisted)
The Medical Service Corps (MSC) is currently recruiting for active duty personnel who would like to apply for/join the Corp. The board will meet in October 2010. Some of the basic eligibility requirements are:
DEGREE REQUIREMENTS: (In the exact title as listed below)
Graduate degrees: Health Care Administration, Hospital Administration, Public Administration, Business Administration, Business Management, Information Systems Management, Finance, Accounting, Statistics, Marketing, Economics, or other business related equivalent as specified below.
Undergraduate degrees: Accounting, Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Systems, Economics, Finance, Health Care Administration, Marketing, Business Management, Public Administration, Clinical or Health Systems Engineering, Operations Research or other business related equivalent as specified below.
Other business-related degrees: If a degree is not titled exactly as indicated above, applicants may apply to the board with a "business-related" degree. In order to
apply under this provision, the degree must be closely related to a business field and
applicant must have completed the administrative discipline courses within the related degree. Administrative discipline courses must include at a minimum five core classes: finance, accounting, statistical analysis, marketing, and economics.
GMAT/GRE SCORES: GMAT/GRE scores from an examination taken within the last five years are required for all applicants. The desired scores are 1000-GRE (verbal and quantitative) or 500-GMAT.
GRADE POINT AVERAGE: The desired GPA for the qualifying degree is 3.0 or above.
AGE: An individual MUST be able to serve 20 years of commissioned service before the 1st day of the month subsequent to their 62nd birthday.
TIME IN SERVICE (TIS): Individuals with less than 8 years time-in-service (TIS) by 1 January of the accession year (AY) are eligible to apply. WAIVERS: Individuals with 8 or more years TIS, but less than 10 years by 1 January of the accession year may also apply, but will require a waiver from the Director of the Medical Service Corps. There are no additional waivers for individuals with more than 10 years TIS.
Active duty AF officers desiring to transfer into the MSC must submit a "competitive category transfer" request prior to submitting an application.

Booster club fundraising

Beale motorcycle rules
IAW AFI 91-207 PARA 3.4.2.4.5. Garment and Motorcycle Visibility, motorcycle riders will wear a brightly colored outer upper garment during the day and a reflective upper garment during the night. Outer upper garment shall be visible and not covered. Wearing a backpack is authorized if it has brightly colored/reflective properties.
There has been a rise of people in uniform walking away from their bikes and walking into buildings in their helmets, jackets etc. This is unauthorized. While in uniform, all protective clothing should be worn if the rider is within arm reach of the bike. If the rider is more than an arm reach away, protective gear must be off and uniform items on (military hat, etc.).
Deer hunters
The Beale AFB 2009 deer hunt is tentatively scheduled for August 15 through November 1. The lottery to select the hunters for this year will be held 21 May 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at the Natural Resources Conference Room, Facility 2561.
Prospective deer hunters must have a California Hunting License and a California Department of Fish and Game deer tag application with G7 filled in as their first choice. The deer tag application must be submitted to the 9 CES natural Resources Office at 6601 B Street no later than one hour before the above drawing. There will be a designated number of military retiree tags for the 2009 deer hunting season. "Second Tag" applications will not be honored unless there are not enough "First-tag" applications.
All Beale hunters will be required to attend an annual hunter orientation brief. If you are interested in participating and will be TDY in the next few months, please ensure that you make arrangements to fulfill all the above requirements. Call 634-4398 or 634-2738 with questions.
ID card rules
Homeland Security Personnel Directive 12 (HSPD 12) now requires all personnel to present two forms of identification any time a new ID card is requested, regardless of status, category, or type of card. For more information, call 634-3187.
Automated prescription refills
There are two automated prescription machines now available for refill pick up at the BX and Bldg. 1086 on the flight line (next to the barbershop). For more information, call the pharmacy at 634-2337.
Women's self-defense class

CS help desk hours
The 9th Communication Squadron Help Desk operating hours are from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Group Client Support Administrators should be the first option when seeking assistance and can be contacted at 4-2364. During contingencies and exercises, the Help Desk schedule will be modified to support Team Beale. If you have any questions or concerns please contact 2nd Lt. Kandi Allred at 634-2364.
Sponsorship training
Sponsorship training is scheduled from 10 to 10:30 a.m. the second Monday of each month at the Airmen and Family Readiness Center. Moving to a new duty location can be stressful without a sponsor. Sponsors assist new Team Beale members in adjusting to their new duty assignment. For more information, call 634-2863.
Airmen's Attic
The Airmen's Attic is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 to 7 p.m. The last Friday and Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. to noon is open to E-7s and O-3s and below. Donations may be dropped off during open hours. Please call ahead for large house hold items. For more information, call the attic at 634-5640. The attic is now located next to the HAWC.
Mom, Pops and Tots
The Community Center hosts a parent social event Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays in the Community Center ballroom. A bounce house is also available for children who attend.
Smooth move briefing
A smooth move briefing is held the first and third Thursday of each month at 9 a.m. The briefing informs servicemembers and their family on the surprises that often occur when moving with kids and pets and how to save money and alleviate stress. For more information, call 634-2863.
