Beale Air Force Base, Calif. –
The Beale Lanes bowling center is undergoing renovations through the month of May to the bathrooms and kitchen area.
New tile floors and walls will be installed in the bathrooms as well as new floors and lighting in the kitchen area.
"I take pride in my facility," Barbara Holt, the 9th Force Support Squadron bowling center manager.
The upgrades will cost approximately $140,000 and have been in the planning stages for more than a year.
Both bathrooms will be completely gutted and have new tile on the floors and walls. The women's bathroom will also receive improved lighting which has been a complaint from customers in the past.
"The women's bathroom used to look like it just had a lamp on, so it's great we're getting new lighting," Ms. Holt said.
Another problem with the old bathrooms was access. The old entryway had a wall restricting handicap access to the facility. This wall will be removed and a new wall will be built to allow for approximately three extra feet of entry space.
Along with new tile flooring, the kitchen area will also receive new lighting, paint, countertops, sinks and improved plumbing. All renovations are on schedule to be completed by June 1, which is just in time for the busy season.
"May is kind of a slow month for us," Ms. Holt said. "Schools aren't out yet and the slow time is the reason why we closed the center completely."
Ms. Holt also said closing the entire center allows the construction crew complete access to the facility and they won't have to deal with anyone getting in their way.
Beale Lanes may have temporarily ceased activities for May, but June is scheduled to be a busy month for the center. While construction is taking place, avid bowlers can still sign up for summer leagues which begin June 1.
To sign up for summer leagues call the bowling center at 634-2299 from 6:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Monday thru Friday.
