New Operations Center to Save Taxpayer Dollars

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held August 13 officially opening a state-of-the-art operations center for the 713th Combat Operations Squadron at the 940th Wing here. U.S. Representative Wally Herger inaugurated the new facility.

"What you're doing not only improves the efficiency of the mission, but it's also saving valuable tax dollars-dollars that can be used in other areas they are needed," said Mr. Herger.

As the first Reserve unit to support Air Force Forces Staff 13th Air Force, 713 COS works with all 13 AF directorates in planning, executing and assessing air, space, and information operations in the Asia-Pacific region. The unit supports the full spectrum of operations from peacetime humanitarian efforts to theater combat operations.

From Beale, the 713 COS provides a split operations capability and continuity for 13 AF headquarters at Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii.

"This new operations center will significantly enhance our reach-back capability," said Col. Ben Williams, commander of the 713 COS. "We'll be able to provide more efficient and effective support to the 13th Air Force in a way that is infinitely more responsive to their mission needs."

Distinguished guests at the ribbon cutting included Col. Jack Metz, Chief of Global Vigilance Division, Air Force Reserve Command; Col. Gregory Cain, the Chief of Staff, representing the commander 13th Air Force; and Col. Peter Lambert, Director of Intelligence, 13th Air Force.

Special civilian guests were Fran Peace, Beale High Flyer, and Chuck Cinnamon, 940th Wing honorary commander .

The ceremony began with a short speech given by Col. Williams describing the facility's upgrades and thanking everyone involved with the project.

"This new capability alone does not ensure mission success. Critical to our mission accomplishment is the continued support of Air Force Reserve Command, 13th Air Force, and the 9th Reconnaissance Wing, as well as the encouragement and hospitality of the surrounding community," said Col. Williams.

Following Col. Williams, Mr. Herger spoke to the crowd.

"We can't thank you (Beale Airmen) enough for what you do for the community," said Congressman Herger. "With another 60-plus servicemembers coming here to help our economy in this area-this is a win, win, win situation!"
