BEALE AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. –
Reservists were generous this year in their support of a 940th Wing holiday tradition, donating food, money and toys to area families and support organizations.
Seventeen boxes of food went to the Beale Airmen's Attic here on base, while twenty 940th Wing families also received boxes of food and toys. Two large boxes of toys were given to the Crisis Resolution Center; a shelter for abused and neglected. Reservists also donated two large boxes of stuffed animals to Court Appointed Special Advocate, a foster youth program.
The generosity of the wing didn't stop there. Members gave ten large boxes of toys to the fourth annual Military Children's Christmas Party held at the California Army National Guard Readiness Center in Roseville, Calif., Dec 17, 2011. Several wing members were on hand to assist organizers with the event, helping with the set-up and the distribution of hundreds of toys to participants.
Deborah Getz, founder of Never Forget our Fallen Organization, spearheads the annual event in honor of her son who was killed while serving as an Army Ranger in Afghanistan. Assisting veterans and their families helps fill the hole in her heart due to the absence of her son, Getz said.
"It makes me feel good knowing children here are getting Christmas presents."
