Reservists benefit from Seasonal Training Program

By Tech. Sgt. Kenneth McCann 940th Wing Public Affairs

The Seasonal Training Program provides 940th Wing Reservists the opportunity to improve their job skills. The Air Force Reserve Command went full-bore with STP during fiscal year 2008.

"Pipeline Reservists coming out of three-level training have 12 months to complete the STP," said Master Sgt. Erreck Conley, 940th Non-commissioned Officer in Charge of Force Development.

Conley said those cross-training from another career field have nine months to complete it. He also said the main purpose of STP is to have Traditional Reservists concentrate on their core tasks and Career Development Course.

STP was implemented by the command because TR's were not being upgraded fast enough, said Conley. Good results were seen within the same year it was created.

Master Sgt. Gregory DeCastro, 940th Chief of Customer Support, said it helps those in upgrade training learn their jobs at a faster rate.

"We see a more highly efficient Airman that comes to the (Unit Training Assembly) UTA of because of STP," said Decastro.
