BEALE AIR FORCE BASE, Calif –
The 940th Wing announced its outstanding Airman of the Year and First Sergeant of the Year during an awards banquet at Beale Air Force Base, Calif., February 9.
The ceremony began by recognizing nominees for the wing awards, followed by remarks from retired Marine Corps General Richard Hearney and concluded with the announcement of the Outstanding Airman of the Year.
"All the award winners were well deserving as well as the nominees," said Col. Kevin Cavanagh, Commander the 940 WG. "I hope this motivates all of our airmen to strive a little bit harder to be the best in the 940th Wing."
During the ceremony General Hearney spoke to the Reservists and guests in the audience about what it takes to become a successful leader in the military.
"I would like to say to the nominees and the winners tonight, with recognition comes responsibility," said Hearney. "It's now your responsibility to be that leader and to motivate others to excel like you have done."
