A parade to honor our veterans

A sea of red, white and blue flags flooded D and 7th Street in Marysville, California, Nov. 11, 2016 as Airmen from Beale Air Force Base, families and surrounding communities participated in the 14th Annual Yuba-Sutter Veterans Day Parade honoring those who serve the United States Armed Forces past, present and future.

The 940th Air Refueling Wing, which is the Air Force Reserve wing at Beale AFB had 38 members participate in the parade last Friday along with many members of the active duty 9th Reconnaissance Wing. The 940 ARW recently re-designated to support the KC-135 Stratotanker aircraft mission on June 4, 2016 and will receive it’s eight and final aircraft this December.

Team Beale came together for the parade to commemorate Veterans Day, the time and day in which the major hostilities of World War I were finally ended: the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918.

We are amongst the many communities throughout the U.S., which displayed their support for our Nation’s veterans through public ceremonies, private prayers, and patriotic activities during the public holiday.

“The example our Nation’s veterans set throughout their lives is a testament to the drive and perseverance that define the American character,” said President Barack Obama in his 2016, Veterans Day Presidential Proclamation. “Let us uphold our obligations to these heroic individuals and never forget those who paid the ultimate price for our liberty.”
